THE ARTIST

BOBBIE CUNNINGHAM

Before I discovered mosaic, my art medium was collage using images from magazines, old books, buttons, ribbons, and other tidbits.  Mosaic was a natural transition.

With mosaic, I love sorting broken dishes , slices of stained glass, old jewelry and all kinds of goo-gahs and working it into a design.  I focus on making my mosaics sparkle and shine with reflected light.  I go to another place when working on my projects. Finishing a mosaic is so satisfying, so rewarding.  And when I am working my mind is already imagining my next effort.

I chose the name EARTHQUAKE MOSAIC because after an earthquake the chunks and hunks of vases, cups, saucers, fancy stuff will be tossed and smashed on the floor. Pieces calling out to be sorted and sized and shaped, then glued to a board and grouted.

To find what broken things are thinking is found in the creation of a mosaic. Creating mosaic is a Zen-like process.

It is a meditation.

Bobbie Cunningham’s Art studio is located in Salem, Oregon.
